Ben May uses a range of different skills in his work, from hurdle making and other very traditional skills to more modern skills such as chainsaw carving. Wood is his main material but Ben is also skilled in the use of other traditional building materials such as cob and lime. One of Ben’s current interests is in the depicting in his sculpture of an alternative view of the world as we see it, whether it be by showing how the world works in cycles such as the seasons of the year and the cycle of life or by linking in his work the different worlds of below ground and above ground or below water and above water. He frequently uses wildlife, sometimes in a humorous way as a means of illustrating this. Where possible he also tries to incorporate a functional element into his designs, such as seating.Ben is available for commission work and can be contacted on 01837 811123 if you are thinking of having any commission work undertaken.
