Craft courses

As you will gather from our main website, as well as having the farm, we have had a woodland crafts business for 9 years and are skilled in a range of traditional woodland crafts and practices. In fact we have been running woodland craft courses for 8 years. We are therefore able to run tailor made courses for you as a group if you wish. Tuition fees are generally £150 for the day for the whole group. There may be a small fee for materials where applicable, but you are able to take home with you what you make as a souvenir of your stay.

Courses which we are able to run include,

Basket making
Rustic furniture making
Working a heavy horse
Charcoal burning
Hurdle making
Introduction to blacksmithing
How to make garden structures
Wild flower identification
Tree identification

We are also able to tailor one or a combination of these courses to your requirements.

Hatherleigh

Hatherleigh boasts 3 pubs and a proper local market which brings in country people from across the county and well into Cornwall. Tuesday is market day and the town is abuzz with people visiting the different auctions and market stalls. The fowl and poultry auction is one not to be missed!

Sport and Leisure activities

Many of our visitors, at least some of the time, take advantage of the secluded location of Lower Upcott to just relax and unwind.- sitting in the garden with a book and a glass of wine or watching the wildlife and snoozing by one of the ponds down the end of the farm.

For those who want to be just a little more energetic, we are situated right beside the Tarka Trail, which has a footpath and cycle track that goes all the way from Dartmoor to Exmoor. There are also numerous circular walks in the area, not to mention the wilds of Dartmoor close by with its stunning views.

For those who enjoy horse riding, there is a stables about 15 minutes from here where you can riding out onto Dartmoor.

There are also some great beaches which you can easily get to from here, all of which are about 40 minutes from here.

Your host Ben May is always willing to suggest places to visit or where to sample some of the scrumptious food in the area and we keep an information pack in the farmhouse.
